Have you ever had one of those days?

Where seriously EVERYTHING goes wrong? Here's a quick run down of my day, before I go crawl into a hole.

Babe wakes at 5:15, I let him cry for 15 min. hoping he'll fall back asleep. Nope.
Comes to nurse in bed; Olivia wakes up (5:30).

Olivia refuses to eat breakfast- Tantrum #1
Go upstairs get Olivia dressed- Tantrum #2

Go to get Aidan dressed: has a slight sore bottom so put him on the floor for some "air-out" time, turn around to get his clothes off the changing table, turn around again: POOP EVERYWHERE.
Carry him to the bathroom in an attempt to minimize spreadage (manage to get it all over me), yell for Olivia to come and clean up the toys ALL OVER in the tub. She's still in the bedroom fascinated with the poop: "Wow Aidan that was a nice big poop!" (it was quite large.) She comes in to clean up the toys...I'm holding Aidan suspended in the air...and he POOPS again...all over the bathmat. Sigh... I utter an expletive that I REALLY hope Olivia doesn't pick up on...cuz it's the REALLY bad one. (seriously, where do those words come from sometimes??)

The smooth part of the day: Get Aidan cleaned up, take a shower (uneventfully). Change more poopy diapers (Olivia). Aidan takes nap #1 at 7:45 (he really shouldn't get up so early).

Olivia watches her morning show when I turn it off -Tantrum #3
9:10, get Aidan up, time to leave for town -Tantrum #4

Go to the park, Olivia races to the slide and slides down immediately...gets sopping wet. Take off her pants to dry.

Go sit down to have a snack. Olivia falls backwards off the picnic table and manages to whack her knee and the side of her face. - Tantrum #5

Go to the grocery store. No free cookies- Tantrum #6

Decide I deserve Wendy's for lunch. Order and sit down. Spill my pop EVERYWHERE. (holding in my 456th tantrum of the day) Begin eating.

Olivia spills her milk EVERYWHERE. Decide I need a frosty.

Come home--WAAAY frustrated. Put Aidan down for nap. Try to stay calm for Olivia...end up laying with her for 10 min. till she falls asleep (this was surprisingly fast). (Tantrum #7)

Aidan starts crying: pooped again. Now wide awake.

Get groceries out of trunk, they've already been in there way too long. Drop yogurt on the floor: spills EVERYWHERE.

Sit on couch to blog while happy baby crawls around and plays: priceless. Let's hope we're on the up & up now!!!!!!

UPDATE: Aidan went down for his nap, and I did too! We both slept for over an hour which was SO amazing. After that the afternoon was great too--after Olivia woke up and watched her afternoon show, my mom came to watch the kids while I left for supervision (work) for 2 hours with a great friend and an excellent supervision. It was so refreshing! And I had DQ...that always helps! His mercies DO renew!

Out of the Mouths of Babes

Olivia: Hold me Mom.
Me: Sure, honey. (I pick her up...)

She places her hand ever so gently on my "chest"...

Olivia: 'sigh', Wigglies Mama, BIG wigglies...

Do you remember this? She cracks me up.

What doesn't kill you...

will make you stronger. Or so the saying goes.

I'm frustrated with myself for being a negative nelly. These last few days OVERALL have been great! Here's some of my positives:
  • work has gone well!
I made my first potpie and it was delish
My dad made us dinner last night and it was even more delish
We had our 1st ECFE class today and it was great fun
    Aidan is doing well
    Olivia is doing well

My negative?
Olivia has been a bear for naps.

Really I shouldn't complain. Life is good...I am reminded all the time about how crappy life could be. I have been dealt a winner's hand; but it's so easy to get wrapped up in to that one little negative and let it drive your day, week, etc. Right now, Olivia is upstairs napping. She has been SO exhausted the last few days from missing naps, and even today she fought it. I ended up laying with her because she SOOOO needs to just sleep and tonight is Awana so it is always SUPER late.

My mission for the rest of the day is to focus on all the positives in my life! Like the fact that I have these two little buggers who are happy and healthy (albeit tired!)

Even if you're lying...

Please tell me that Olivia's no-napping strike is just a phase. I know we got through it once before, but during that phase she eventually did fall asleep EVERY DAY. Yea, not so much this time. Do your kids go through phases where they refuse naps and then start to nap again? She's so exhausted, and just not ready (and I'm not ready) to be done.

Please, please tell me it's just a phase...

hair cut!

Who? Us? The Weekly Update

Olivia has barely napped this week. Nap Camp Round #2 will be beginning today around 12:30 pm CST. You are welcome to join us.

Aidan, on the other hand, took a 3 hour nap yesterday!!!!! AHHHHH it was HEAVENLY! He was such a happy little man after he woke up! I firmly believe that 90% of my children's unhappiness, surliness, and just plain bad behavior comes from not sleeping enough. Yesterday was awesome on Aidan's end...maybe today will be awesome for both of them? We'll see...

I am taking both kids with while I get my hair cut today (and Olivia's cut). We'll see how this turns out...It'll either be awesome or terrible. I'll let you know. I think afterwards we'll head to the library and park across the street. Tire them out good for naptime. :)

Next Friday is my 10 year High School reunion. I'm dreading it, super excited for it, and makes-me-want-to-vomit with anxiety when I think about it. I will be shopping for a new outfit this weekend to go with my hair cut. Hopefully I'll be hot.

Olivia peed on the pot 4 times this week!! In a row!! For M-a-M's as she calls them. Then refused for the rest of the week.

My awesome parents are giving me a hand while Ryan's busy for a few days. I'm so appreciating them this week! Thanks guys!

So you think you can dance!

I've been resistant to show you this video.

Not because of Olivia's dancing abilities...I mean I know I am opening myself up to talent scouts hounding us day and night, but that is not my concern.

It's because I'm a moron.

Why you ask? Because my video camera is my real camera and sometimes I forget you can't TURN it like you would a real camera....

Here she is anyway! Dancing before Papa John's show, in all her seriousness.

Playing!

Olivia and Aidan have started playing together!! Well, let me clarify...when I say "playing together", I really mean, being able to play in the same room without me watching like a hawk for Olivia to pound on Aidan. Either way, it's enjoyable to watch and it allows me to get some stuff done!

State Fair '09

John Deer tractors...Aid loved them!

Olivia going on rides!

"Dancing": My Godfather (Papa John) does a falconry show at the DNR building every year at the fair (well many many shows every year). He lives in TX so this is our chance to see him yearly. Olivia was very slow to warm up to him, but before his show started she said she wanted to go and dance. I figured she meant right in front of us, but when I put her down she walked very slowly up onto the stage. There was music playing and she stood on the stage and danced, never cracking a smile. It was serious business! Hilarious! When the song ended and she came back to sit with us, the audience all clapped for her!

Aidan & Papa John
She loves her some corn dogs. :)

We're alive...

Just barely...but we are alive!

Oy, it has been "day" upon "day" in our household...let me give you a little rundown!
Last Thursday am: Aidan began barfing/pooping/crabbing. Continued all day. Horrible sleep at night.

Friday: more of the same. Ryan left for BWCA. Took Aid to Dr. to make sure no ear infection...all good. Horrible sleep at night.

Saturday: No more barfing/pooping...just crabbing. Got out of the house and went shopping with my mom...the kids were soooo crabby. Usually they love shopping...not this day. Horrible sleep at night.

Sunday: Church w/the kids--went well. After church? Not so well. Aidan began a 3 hour screaming marathon which ended abruptly when I FINALLY decided I couldn't take it anymore and put him in the carseat to head over to my parents. (if I knew that's all it would take...) Within minutes of being at my parents house, Aidan broke out into a rash/welts/hive/things all over his legs. Worried about an allergic reaction, I headed in to the ER/Same day clinic to get him checked out. Of course, by the time we got there...they were all gone. Ryan came home...still horrible sleep at night.

Monday: State Fair! Kids were great, had a wonderful time! YAY! No nap for Olivia, but she survived. After we got home I needed to go to the grocery store...on the way into town, the migraine train struck. This is migraine #2 since before being pg with Olivia...they have been doosies! Went to bed at 7:30...Aidan slept horrible still. Fed him in between barfing... :) Nice, huh?

Tuesday: Miserable migraine day. My wonderful mom came over and helped me the majority of the day. It was a lifesaver. Aidan broke out into welts/hives/whatever's again...this time on arms, legs, and face. Aidan deciding that he doesn't want to nurse?? Refusing the boob much of the day, but nursed a couple times...I don't get it... Went to bed at 8...Aidan? Still not sleeping good.

Wednesday: Migraine hangover day. This afternoon we have an appt. with the kids' doctor to find out what's the deal with Aid's reactions. Hopefully the pics we took while he broke out yesterday will help her.

What we really need?? Sleep!!! Aid has been getting up 3-4x every night and up by 5:15-5:30, and not napping well during the day. Today he finally slept until 6:30...but of course Olivia woke up at 5:30!! Lack of sleep has prolonged all of our difficulties.

:)

Weather

The weather has been GORGEOUS the last couple of days...if you live where I live!

Unfortunately, we haven't been able to get outside and enjoy the weather. Why? Well, our littlest family member has been a bit UNDER the weather. Poor little man has caught a stomach bug of some sort and we've been up to our ears in, well...you kow. I think (Read: HOPE) he's on the mend now for Ryan left for the BWCA and I don't know how well I'll deal with being a single-parent with a sick kid. For those of you who are, I think you are amazing. We're also busy praying that niether Olivia or I get sick!

Hopefully we can get out of the house for a bit this afternoon and go play at the park for a while...and maybe grab a yummy treat for supper. I need a treat after all this sick business. :)
